" . . . And This is My Oldest Grandchild."

I haven't done a watercolor in ages and I don't aspire to be a portrait painter and I would love to have suggestions for improvement. The photo I was working from was taken with a flash which doesn't make for good shadows, so I tried to change the lighting a bit which added to the challenge of painting this. I used a grid to make the drawing.

I don't do portraits often either, Jane, but this looks great to me. I like the way you arranged the lighting.

Jane,

This is so good, coming from a devout Grandma now! The only things I see that are ambiguous to me would be the back face seems to need some more modeling shadows underneath her left side chin and the chin doesn't seem quite right with the middle Grandma, it seems to thin out too much on the side closest to us. But, the emotion is there, painted right in, and that makes this a great painting.

This is an incredible painting done from the impossible of a flash photgraph. You did such an awesome job capturing the 'mood' of grandmothering! A bit more warm in the cheek areas would give it more glow, but maybe it's my computer screen? Great job, tho.
